Faversham is regarded as one of England's most charming and historic market towns. Nestling between the rural beauty of the rolling Downs and the sweeping flatlands of the north Kent marshes, the town is both a lively, modern community and a heritage treasure.

Faversham Decorative and Fine Arts Society was started in 1982 to provide those who live in and around Faversham with the opportunity to enhance their knowledge of the Arts. We continue to achieve this by providing an excellent programme of illustrated lectures given by experts in their fields, by organising study days on specialist topics and by arranging visits to museums, galleries, country houses and other places of cultural interest.

Volunteers from the society offer their services to the community - for instance, by recording the contents of local churches for posterity, book cleaning and conservation. Additionally, our Young Arts Society actively encourages the younger generation to develop a keener interest in the arts.

Each year the Society provides funds to assist art orientated initiatives in the Faversham area.    Recent donations were given to Faversham Music Club to support its project with primary schools, to the Sittingbourne Orpheus Choir for its community work and to the Arden Theatre in Faversham to support its work with young people.  In 2009, a donation was made to the Pilgrims Hospice Art Therapy.

Our latest tour was a six-day holiday in Cornwall in April 2010.

We meet on the fourth Thursday of each month (except for July, August and December). Coffee is served from 10.20 am and is followed by the lecture that finishes at mid-day.    Each year we have one evening lecture at which dinner is served

Venue:
Alexander Centre
Preston Street, Faversham ME13 8NZ

There is disabled access and a hearing loop available. However, we are not able to provide free parking in the nearby car park. (Map)

Our present membership is 300 and there is currently a waiting list. Guests and those prospective members on the waiting list are welcome at our meetings. The charge is £5 each per meeting. Non-members are also welcome at Special Interest Days and on outings when places are available.  However, due to high demand it has been necessary to restrict guests’ and prospective members’ attendance to three society events per year.
