Welcome to Canterbury DFAS
Canterbury Decorative and Fine Art Society [CDFAS] was started in 1973 to provide those who live in and around Canterbury with the opportunity to enhance their knowledge of the arts. At present we have 253 members and provide a programme of excellent illustrated lectures, regular visits to museums, galleries, country houses and other places of cultural interest and an annual study day.
Volunteers from the society offer their services to the local community by recording the contents of local churches for posterity. We actively encourage the young to develop an interest in the arts by supporting youth projects and a local art college.
The banner picture above: The bronze figure of Christ above the Christ Church Gateway, made by Klaus Ringwald in 1990, was inserted in the niche to replace an original statue that was destroyed during the Commonwealth. It was a gift from the Friends of Canterbury Cathedral.
