Thanet DFAS

Thanet Decorative & Fine Arts Society (TDFAS) is closely linked to that of the Chiltern Society in Buckinghamshire the first DFAS in England. In 1967, Mollie Carte, Sheila Marshall and friends conceived a similar idea in Thanet. They also approached the V&A about the provision of lecturers and were put in touch with Patricia Fay and January 1968 saw the formation of "The Thanet Antique and Fine Art Group" with 100 members.

I was honoured and delighted to have been appointed Chairman of Thanet DFAS in March 2008 our 40th Anniversary Year. Members, will I am sure agree, that the 40 years have passed by very quickly and many will no doubt remember dear Sheila Marshall.

The Programme Secretary and Committee work very hard to provide a varied and stimulating programme of Lectures with slides and Events. Our Holiday Representative arranges many wonderful Holidays, in the UK as well as Europe and we have many Days of Special Interest and Day Trips to please every member. I hope you will agree that the 2008 programme has something for every one.

New members are always welcome so please keep spreading the word about Fine Art and Thanet DFAS.

For those who do not know me that well, I am a little bit older than the society.   I was born and brought up in Ramsgate and have spent most of my working life in Thanet.   I do hope that you will enjoy wandering through our Web Site and look forward to meeting friends old and new during my chairmanship.

Mrs Terrie Wheatley-Ward
